PERSONAL INFORMATION
A very personable young rising star in professional chuckwagon racing, 2004 will be Mark’s 12th season of driving with the WPCA. Mark won the Calgary Stampede’s Orville Strandquist Award for the Top Rookie Driver in 1996. In 2003 he was the only driver to run penalty free for all 10 days at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby, and won the H.L. Powell Trucking Clean Drive Award for the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Derby. Mark qualified for his first career sudden death championship final heat at the Badlands Dinosaur Derby in 2002. He posted 7 top ten runs in 2003, including 2 runs in the top five.
A top ten finish at the Klondike Chuckwagon Derby was his best of the year. Mark is a graduate of the University of Alberta, and is a second generation chuckwagon driver whose father is chuckwagon legend Kelly Sutherland, and works the Encana Corporation in the off season. Mark enjoys hockey, hunting, and training horses when he is not racing chuckwagons.
